The BC Demonstration Project
In 2001, a group of agencies in British Columbia became associate members of the Canadian Outcomes Research Institute’s (CORI) HOMES-Muttart Research Project and adopted its outcome monitoring system. These agencies realize that they are under increasing pressure to show that the work they do with clients has an impact. As a part of helping to demonstrate accountability and commitment to providing the best possible services to children and their families, these agencies have requested that an outcome institute be established within British Columbia to assist in the ongoing development, monitoring, and analysis of the results-based data system they have helped to create.
Demonstration Project Purpose
The CORI system was designed with the capacity to aggregate data from across groups of agencies to demonstrate achievement of client service outcome within large regions. It was designed to eventually aggregate information to give back information to help establish best practices within various service sectors. BC agencies now hope to use this capacity to develop aggregate reports and illustrate the results they have achieved across the province. This outcome demonstration project is being formed around the experience of existing use of the CORI’s system within the British Columbia context.
Anticipated Results
The project is intended to produce an annual report from data compiled from agencies across British Columbia. It is hoped that this data can eventually be used to provide evidence for ongoing improvement of services. In addition, to handle the data in an ethical manner, an ethics committee will be formed to ensure all data handling, analyses, and reporting are completed using methods that protects client and agency confidentiality and privacy over the long-term. The data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics to help describe the dataset collected by all agencies and then presented in a BC annual report.
Invitation
The original agencies have created an evaluation group within the CORI system and registered each of their services into the demonstration. Agencies are welcome to become a part of this project. Simply contact the Canadian Outcomes Research Institute to register your agency into the demonstration.
